Don't forget to smile
“There is no personal charm so great as the charm of a cheerful temperament.
- Henry Van Dyke
It's Thursday. Hang in there, the week is almost over! 😋

Today also happens to be the birthdays of very special people. Firstly, arguably the greatest boxer of all time, the late Muhammad Ali, turns 77 today. 🥊 Former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, turns 55 today. 🎁

In today's newsletter, we will be covering Binance launching a new fiat-to-crypto exchange in the island of Jersey, WordPress is launching a new publishing platform with inbuilt blockchain tools and a bill has been resubmitted to the United States Congress that seeks 'safe harbor' for some crypto startups.

Please don't forget to answer the polls down below too! It's a great way for us to interact with you all and hear what you have to say. 💭 Happy reading! 📚

Just another day 😴
In the past 24 hours, markets rallied throughout the wee hours of the morning to a daily high of ~$123.4 billion, before falling back down to ~$121-122 billion levels where it remained for the rest of the day. 24 hour daily volume currently stands at ~$16.5 billion, pretty much at the same levels it has been for the rest of the week. Most coins are seeing either gains or losses in the ~1-3% range. Notable movers of the day include Augur (REP), Steem (STEEM) and Status (SNT), each up ~56.9%, ~24.1% and ~27.7% respectively.

Similarly, BTC rallied earlier in the day to a high of ~$3,685 before retracing back to ~$3,340 for a ~0.4% loss. RSI levels on the daily chart continue to remain at ~43, as from yesterday. Since BTC failed to break to the upside of the inverted heads and shoulders formation it was trading in (mid Nov - early Jan), it has been forming lower highs and lower lows.

Command & conquer 💪
Crypto exchange Binance has launched a new fiat-to-crypto exchange on the island of Jersey, a British self-governing dependency, to target traders in Europe and the U.K. The exchange will enable users to trade Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) against the British Pound (£) and the Euro (€). 😲

According to the CFO of Binance, Wei Zhou, the exchange selected Jersey for its "highly developed digital infrastructure, robust regulatory framework, and world-class financial services sector.” Zhou also clarified that Binance Jersey is a separate independent entity from its parent, a crypto-to-crypto exchange, but is built using the same technology.

Binance has been working with Digital Jersey, a government-backed economic development agency, since Jun 2018 to develop the exchange and create about 40 jobs on the island. At the time, Binance's CEO Changpeng Zhao said that with Jersey's local economy being based on a major currency (GBP), and its close proximity to the U.K. and Western Europe, that it will help Binance "form a strong operational foundation for our (its) expansion into the rest of Europe.” 💪

Advanced tools 🔨
WordPress is launching a new publishing platform with inbuilt blockchain tools, "Newspack", backed by Google ($1.2 million), Ethereum development studio ConsenSys ($350,000) among others. 💰

Newsrooms that access Newspack will have the option to use blockchain-based features made available through ConsenSys-backed, Civil Media. Through Civil's "Publisher" product (that will be installed as a plugin on the WordPress platform), newsrooms will be able to permanently archive content on a decentralized network. 🤯

The plugin will also allow newsrooms to join the Civil Registry, a "hub of community vetted and approved newsrooms", and grant access to a “discovery portal” for consumers seeking news. 💪

Perseverance 😣
A bill to exempt companies providing non-custodial crypto services, from several state money transmitting laws, has been resubmitted to the United States Congress. 😀

The bill, titled “To provide a safe harbor from licensing and registration for certain non-controlling blockchain developers and providers of blockchain services,” was submitted by U.S. congressman Tom Emmer and co-sponsored by congressman Darren Soto. 🙌

It seeks to provide a "safe harbor from licensing and registration for certain non-controlling blockchain developers and providers of blockchain services”, so as to allow companies which use or trade cryptocurrencies but do not hold users’ coins to be exempt from money transmission laws if passed, on grounds that "only custodians present a risk of loss that would be sensibly addressed through licensing." 🤔

Blockchain term of the day 🤓 - Proof-Of-Work (PoW)

A blockchain consensus mechanism involving solving of computationally intensive puzzles to validate transactions and create new blocks. PoW is the original consensus mechanism in a blockchain network, where miners compete with each other to solve these computationally complex puzzles and get rewarded when they are the first ones to do so.

What you said
How much do you agree with this statement: "I closely follow the protocol updates of the coins I invest in (e.g. Constantinople for Ethereum (ETH)"

The average vote was 6.1. This should be way higher guys! It's important to know what you are investing in. Knowing more about the protocol updates to your coins allows you to better access where its stands among its peers.
